HENRY M. SOBELL

APPENDIX B - Invitation Letter

Dear Colleague,

Al Scott and I ask you to join us in discussing the possibility that discrete breathers -- termed "premeltons" -- exist in DNA.

We realize that this subject may seem far a field from your own immediate interests. However, the emergence of such entities in DNA allows one to understand much of the information in the molecular biology area, and we suspect that the lessons learned from this example will provide yet broader insights into other (seemingly unrelated) areas of nonlinear science.

We therefore ask you to consider the information we will be sending you.

Please feel free to send us your comments and criticisms, along with any questions you may have.

Thank you very much for this courtesy.
