Nash Stream Trails

The Cohos Trail in the Nash Stream Forest

The southeastern trailhead to the Nash Stream Forest can be accessed by Rt. 110 in Stark... Look for the Bell Hill Road then take a left onto Percy Road. On the right you'll see an orange bar gate and a sign 'Bald Mt. Trail'. Parking is just up the road off to the edge by the old Stark Landfill...

This trail connects to the Jimmy Cole Road and then on to The Old Summer Club Trail. A spur path to Victor Head branches off from this trail but if you keep going on the Old Summer Club Trail, you'll come to a junction near South Percy Peak.

From there, you have your choice of either following the Percy Loop trail or the Percy Peaks Trail down to the Nash Stream Road (dirt).

The Percy Loop Trail
To access the Percy Loop Trail from inside of Nash Stream, take the Emerson Road in Stark and turn onto the Nash Stream Road. Follow this for approximately 6 miles...Park across the road about 50 feet up next to the driveway without blocking the drive.

Pond Brook Falls:
Further north on the Nash Stream Road, you'll see a pull-out and a sign for Pond Brook Falls on your right. This is a short hike in to one of the most spectacular falls in the North Country. Smooth granite slabs with a nice swimming hole at the bottom!

Sugarloaf Mountain Trail:
The trailhead is located about 9 miles up the Nash Stream Road...about 200 feet past the steel and wooden-planked bridge over Nash Stream, you'll see the trailhead on your left. Park away from the driveway to the camp and climb to the summit of Sugarloaf (3,701')

The Headwaters Gate to Gadwah Notch
Follow the Nash Stream Road another 3 miles or so past the trailhead to Sugarloaf Mountain... and come to an orange gate to the Old Columbia Road...Pass by this gate and drive to the second gate a mile or so up the road....The Nash Stream Road ends here, so park off to the side, not blocking the gate. There has been a new sign 'To Gadwah Notch' put up during the summer of 2007 marking this trail that heads out to Muise Bowl, Bulldozer Flats, Sims Stream Valley, Gadwah Notch, Baldhead Mtn, Kelsey Notch, Dixville Notch and beyond...

All of the trails in the Nash Stream Forest are graphically detailed in Kim Robert Nilsen's excellent Cohos Trail Guidebook or simply go to The Cohos Trail's website for more information.
