Under Town Law, the Town Supervisor has the authority to create standing committees.  These committees act in an advisory capacity to the Town Board or in response to a Town Board directive.  The supervisor can appoint Town Board members to these committees.  Other people can contribute to these committees in an "ad hoc" manner.

The committees thus established by the supervisor are:

Budget & Finance

This committee serves as the advisor to the Town Board in matters of budgeting, investment, insurance, employee benefits and financial planning.

Public Safety & Emergency Management

This committee serves as a local disaster preparedness and planning body.  It provides coordination with County, State and Federal emergency planning agencies as well as with the American Red Cross.

Building & Grounds

This committee supports activities required to support the Harrisburg municipal buildings and the property they sit on.

Economic Development

This committee is responsible for exploring and creating opportunity for economic development within Harrisburg and the surrounding region.

Communications & Public Relations

This committee is charged with providing improved communication with residents and landowners.

For a detailed description of the intended functions of each of the standing committees, see the "Town Board, Standing Committee Proposal."
