MT. HOPE CEMETERY, ROCHESTER NY THE JOHANN AND SOPHIA SCHULT GRAVES (SG 38 + 39 R47) Johann Schult and Sophia Nietz Schult were my paternal great-great grandparents who emigrated to America around 1875 with their children John C. Schult (my great-grandfather), Ludwig Schult, Joachim Schult, Friedrich Schult, Fredericka Schult Wolff and Wilhelmina Schult Wagenknecht. Johann and Sophia died in the Greece/Parma NY area where most of their children and their families lived, but they were buried in Mt. Hope in the old Single Grave area which is now greatly overgrown. Johann Schult (and Sophia Nietz Schult) THE SODEMANN / SCHULT PLOT (SW 1/4 355 R3) C.Carl and Caroline Steinmiller Sodemann were my paternal great-great-grandparents. Carl Sodemann emigrated about 1865 with his mother Frederika and his siblings from Alt Pannekow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. Caroline Steinmiller emigrated about 1866 from Ehmkendorf, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. They lived on Mark Street in Rochester NY and had nine children, only some of whom are buried in this plot. It was purchased in 1898 by Caroline. She had her husband's casket moved at that time from it's original grave in another part of the cemetery. My direct descendant is their daughter Mary SodemannSchult, wife of John C. Schult, my paternal geat-grandparents. Through my research, I have met my cousin Robin Sodeman, grand-daughter of C. Carl and Caroline Sodemann's son, John Charles Sodemann (who is buried elsewhere in Mt. Hope)! John and Mary Schult's daughter Carrie F. Kerber is buried in the plot with her husband, William Herbert Kerber. They are my paternal grandparents. He is buried with his wife, Sophie Genkel. Their mother, Magdalena Steinmiller and an infant son, Frank Steinmiller, are also in this plot, but are unmarked. He is buried with his wife, Isabelle (Belle) Hutchison. Charles F. Steinmiller (and Isabelle Hutchison) THE FREDERICK AND RECKA KERBER GRAVES (SG BB19+20 R85) Frederick (Fritz) and Fredericka (Recka) Holzerland Kerber were my paternal great-great-grandparents who emigrated from Vorpommern, Germany about 1872 with their children John Kerber (my great-grandfather), Fredericka Kerber Apfel, Charles Kerber and Frederick Kerber. Frederick (Fritz) Kerber (and Fredericka Holzerland Kerber) THE CHARLES AND SOPHIA KERBER GRAVES (SW 1/4 354 R6) Charles Kerber was the older brother of my great-grandfather, John Kerber. Charles Kerber (and Sophia Kerber) THE APFEL PLOT Fredericka (Rickey) Kerber Apfel was the sister of my great-grandfather, John Kerber. She is buried with her husband, Adam Apfel, a Rochester policeman. Two of her children, Henry (and his wife) and Amelia are buried next to them. I have had the pleasure of corresponding with Rickey's's grandson, George Thomas (G.T.) Apfel . Thanks to G.T. for the picture of these stones! THE KERBER/JESS/ZANDER PLOT (NE 1/4 213 R3) This large plot holds five generations of my family, of which some graves are unmarked. This plot. Friedrich Zander and Maria Holtfreder Zander were my paternal great-great-great-grandparents who emigrated from Vorpommern, Germany in the early 1870s. Their daughter Marie Zander married Christopher Jess. The Jess' daughter Emma Jess married my great-grandfather John Kerber. Two of John and Emma Kerber's children who died in infancy are buried in unmarked graves, as are his daughter Elsa Kerber Merrell and her husband Frederick Merrell. John Kerber's grand-daughter Lucille Kerber Garvey's husband (Alfred Garvey) is also buried in this plot. A child, Mary Schramm, is buried in an umarked grave in this plot. She may be the daughter of Emma Jess Kerber's sister Fredericka Jess Schramm. He is buried with his wife Anna and his son Harold. His daughter Viola Jess Bookout is buried elsewhere. William Jess (and Anna Jess) Harold W. Jess THE SCHRAMM PLOT (SE 1/4 149 R6) Fredericka Jess, daughter of ChristopherJess and Marie Zander Jess, married William Schramm. Their presumed daughter Mary who died as a child is buried in the Zander/Jess/Kerber plot. This plot includes William Schramm's mother; it is unknown whether his father is buried here as well.
