Rebuilding Jay's Covered Bridge

updated July 24, 2004

8 x 8 diagonal timbers installed in the first half

Shores have been removed and reinstalled in the 2nd half
Top chords are on top but not in position yet

inside looking toward the 2nd half
the strap x's check lateral movement during construction

The new diagonals seat tightly into cast iron shoes
Each timber has a double 45 degree cutback,
as well as an offset half of a 3-1/4" diameter hole-
and that half hole is bored at 45 degrees to the horizontal plane ;-)
The timbers are #1 Eastern white pine
